Former Fulham player Zat Knight admits it would be "a dream come true' to help Aston Villa qualify for Europe as he gears up for what is also his first derby with Blues.

Birmingham-born Knight has only watched the clash from the stands but now has the chance to make his mark on the pitch at St Andrews for Martin O'Neill's side.

But, while eager to help Villa win the first of three successive away matches against the local rivals, Knight is looking further ahead.

The England International feels European qualification can be achieved if Villa keep their key players fit and add to the squad when the transfer window reopens in two months time.

Knight said: "I think the future is bright. If we can keep the players fit and add to the squad in January, I think we can do really well.

"Everyone is talking about Europe and we are in a position at the moment to achieve that.

"As a Villa fan it would mean a lot to me to help the side get into Europe. We have got the stadium and supporters worthy of that and we have got the players for it.

"If we can stay injury-free and add in January, I think we can do what the manager wants.'
